Vessel Management
James Marine Management is the service side of OBXBOATS and offers annual, seasonal or by the project, management of your vessel. We currently manage a fleet of up to 10 boats annually, all on the Outer Banks. We also perform and coordinate service on many others around the local marinas and boatyards. For our annual clients, we treat each boat like it was our own and work closely with you, the owner, to manage your expectations in regard to the level of maintenance, detail and service that you desire. We begin with a meeting and assessment of your vessel. This allows for discussion of how we want to tailor your plan in regards to the boat, your program and the future direction of it all. This can be as detailed or as simple as you desire. Once we have outlined an agreement, we are at your service.

We keep a year round eye on your boat, checking systems, adjusting lines, visually inspecting dockside as well as down below. For much of the year these visits are almost daily, relative to the weather, the season and the use of the vessel. |

During these inspections, we will note any issues requiring attention and make the owner aware of them. From here we work with you to develop the best plan of action and move forward to either fix the problem ourselves or to coordinate the service to be done within the network of dependable local service providers that we deal with. Throughout this entire process you will be kept abreast of the progress as well as time and budget concerns. Communication is often what is lacking in the service industry and part of the value of our service is the streamlining of this whole process to eliminate the surprises and frustration. |

When it comes to routine and seasonal boatyard maintenance work, we will consult with the owner to develop a list and an overall plan. We then deliver the vessel to the yard, complete the tasks that we can handle ourselves and then coordinate the rest of the work with the yard manager or subcontractors. Again, we oversee the entire job through its completion and to the satisfaction of the owner. We then deliver the vessel back to the marina and secure it in its slip. A large portion of our time is spent on the boats during the Fall and Winter months when brutal temperatures and erratic winds and tides are often the norm. Extra attention is needed during this season with any number of surprises, power outages and constant line adjustments... It is amazing to see the number of boats that are often just banging away, no one around when it really needs it the most. In essence, you are acquiring the services of a professional private Captain and project manager for a mere fraction of the cost. You will benefit from many years of experience in all realms of dealing with boats, whether at the dock, underway, fishing or in the boatyard. You will have a constant resource to troubleshoot problems that you encounter and the peace of mind that comes with knowing that you can go back home and to work, and your issues will be taken care of. You will have the opportunity to learn more about your boat, understand its systems and develop maintenance schedules. We will work with you if necessary, learning about the maneuverability of your boat and general seamanship so you can fully realize its capabilities and potential. You will also have a constant source for fishing reports, trends, rigging and other fishing techniques and how to apply all of this to your boat to get the most enjoyment out of it while searching the blue water. (We also spend a lot of our time on the phone...) We base our business on our reputation and value the relationships that we build along the way. Our goal is not to have as many boats as we can, but rather a manageable number of like-minded clients who we can work closely with, who trust us and realize the value in a dockside partnership with James Marine Management. We want to be the local contact that you can count on in any situation, at any time and for any reason when it comes to your boat-owning experience. |
